Material Trait
Created by Conary Howard-Rogers
Material Trait is a contemplation of our human impulse to turn the natural world around us into the manufactured materials we buy and sell. The compelling shape of the sculpture is an abstraction of our own DNA. When this organic, double helical, shape is paired with the materials used to make it (i.e. steel, cement, and plaster,) it creates a thought provoking contrast between the natural world and the man made materials within it. In a broader context this piece serves as a meaningful convergence between the outdoor walking pathways and the indoor shopping areas.
